Who can do this?
Instructors can see only the student responses that occurred from the location(s) where they embedded the interactive media. If the same piece of media is embedded by different people, those different users will only see those responses that came through THEIR embed.
Admins can see all polling data for any interactive media they have access to.
The Media Details page for interactive media contains a Polling tab. This tab provides all of the student responses to the polls embedded in that particular media, from the LMS course where it is embedded. The tab also includes a Download Data button, that allows you to download a CSV file containing the student response data you can see in the tab.
Specifically, the download includes all of the polling questions in the media along with every student response provided to each question. The download also includes student entries where the student viewed at least some portion of the media and at least one of the polling questions embedded in it, but may not have responded to all of them.
Click on the media to open the media details page. THEN click the Polling tab at the bottom, as shown in the below figure.
Clicking Download Data, identified in the above figure, generates and downloads a CSV file containing each polling question in the media along with each student's response (if one was provided).
The naming convention used for the file is as follows:
- media_polling_<name of the media>_<date of download>_<time of download>.csv
The filename for the download will look similar to this:
The first part of the filename will always be "media_polling" because the download is of the polling data for this media.
The second part of the filename will always be the name of the media.
The third part of the filename is the date and time (in local 24-hour time) the download was generated.
So in the example filename given, the name of the media is How We Know What We Know and the download was generated on Nov 11, 2020 at 1:46pm local time (13:46).
This naming convention is designed to help you know WHAT media the download pertains to, and WHEN the data is accurate to.
Data Fields in the Download
The download, like all downloads from Echo360 is a CSV file, which is a flat file where each row contains all the necessary information. This is why the media ID, media name, and course name are repeated on every row. However these fields (columns in a spreadsheet) are places together at the front of the file, allowing you to scroll past them as needed or easily hide them if necessary.
Each row in the file corresponds to each student's response to each polling question in the media (or simply that the user viewed that question without responding). The questions appear in the same order in which they appear in the media.
The table below lists all the fields in the download along with a description of what information may be included in each field.
|The system identifier (UUID) for this piece of media|
|Media Name||The name for this piece of media|
|Course||The LMS/VLE course in which this media is embedded and from which these students viewed and responded. IF you embedded this media in more than one LMS course location, those courses are also included in the download, and are grouped separately.|
|Student Name||First and last name of the student|
|Student Email||Email address of the student|
|Poll Type||Type of polling question|
|Poll Question||The question text for the polling question|
|Poll Response||The response given by the student|
|Seen||Whether this polling question was seen for this student. Will read Yes or No. If there is a Poll Response, this field will always be Yes.|
|Submitted||Whether or not the student submitted a response to this polling question. Will read Yes or No. If Seen reads No, then Submitted will also read No|
|Correct||Whether the student's response was a correct response (for polling questions where a correct response is identified). This will be blank if there is no response or if the question did not have a correct response identified.|
|Justification||The text of the student's justification response if one was required|
The date and time the student submitted their response
Remember: only the user who embedded the media has access to the polling response data. This includes both the response information shown in the tab as well as the data included in the download.
